Back again! Yeah it’s been over a month since the last post because I was burnt out after publishing this book! Very burnt out. Writing is hard! However I am still very proud of this story and now I can share with you more about how it came to be!
So for the sake of my tired brain let’s look into something that is small yet so meaningful.
The scene separator!
This is the first story where I used scene separator’s in this way, I had completely forgotten that you could have images between your scenes but I’m so glad that through the writing class that aloud me to create this book I was reminded of this and able to put the time and work into creating a meaningful image to separate all the chaotic and heartfelt scene’s within this story.
And here are the original ideas that I had!
These were created on Canva using the free images, this was simply a test to figure out what I wanted the scene separator to look like, for some reason the idea of hearts immediately had come to my mind! Love and family is a big theme for this story and I thought it might be cute to represent Abraham and his children in this way to show their bond in this way throughout the book.
But these were no where near personal enough – they looked okay but I knew I wanted something that I had created myself, drawn with my own hands and held the essence of each of these character’s personality’s and that is how we got the finale scene separator that you see within the book!
In the end I was very proud of what I had created even though artwork that is in this style is not what I am used to at all! My comfort zone is within character creation and sometimes extends into landscapes but I rarely do symbols or smaller artwork such as this. However I was really happy with how this turned out! And the unique flare that it brought my story, subtly showing off the personalities of each of the toddlers.
Here it shows who each heart is! I had fun adding subtle details to show off each of the toddlers quirks. With Rhett’s question mark and heart being upside down. Dov of course is attached to his father with an extra heart to show his affectionate nature. And Wilden as always the wild and fun toddler off to a new adventure. And then finally the lines that connect all of them to Abraham as he tries his best to keep them in arms reach!
But kids can’t always be kept close and safe, sometimes there is danger, sometimes they are torn away or they fall down. And in this story Abraham faces every one of those fears, as he battles to keep him and his children alive.
And maybe in the end he might be able to get them home. . .
If the idea of this story intrigues you at all I encourage you to check it out and I hope that you come to enjoy it as much as I do!
